JCD-DU:
A Legacy of Activism and Leadership

The Dhaka University Unit of JCD has been at the forefront of some of the most significant democratic movements in Bangladesh’s history. It played a pivotal role in the mass uprising of 1990, which led to the fall of the military regime of Hussain Muhammad Ershad and the restoration of democracy. JCD-DU has also been actively involved in movements against political repression, standing firm in its commitment to democratic principles, academic freedom, and student rights.
For years, JCD-DU has been bravely fighting against the authoritarian rule and fascism of the Hasina regime, resisting political oppression, enforced disappearances, and countless extra-judicial killings carried out to silence opposition voices. Under this oppressive rule, many student activists have been jailed, tortured, and even murdered simply for exercising their democratic rights. Despite these relentless crackdowns, JCD-DU continues to stand strong in its mission to restore democracy, end dictatorship, and ensure justice for all victims of state-sponsored oppression.

Through the years, JCD-DU has remained a strong advocate for students, working to ensure their rights, opportunities, and voices are protected on campus and beyond. The unit continues to be a dynamic force in student politics, representing the aspirations of young minds and preparing the next generation of national leaders.
Today, JCD-DU remains dedicated to its mission of upholding democracy, empowering students, and contributing to Bangladesh’s progress, carrying forward the vision of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
